Universal Photonics, an international maker of specialized surface preparation materials for the optical industry, outgrew its Hicksville facility and was scouting alternative locations for its international headquarters. Among the candidates were several out-of-state options.
We approached them with a benefits package that included abatements on property taxes, as well as exemptions from mortgage recording and sales taxes. Impressed by our incentives as well as our understanding of their business and market, Universal Photonics purchased a 55,000-square-foot facility, located in Central Islip, which enabled them to continue to be globally competitive while saving 60 high-tech jobs that could have been lost had they left Long Island.
